NAMU is happy to present new exhibition!
On May 18, International Museum Day, at 6:00 p.m., we invite you to the opening of the exhibition “Needle work” by the famous artist Anastasia Podervianska. As part of the exhibition project, the artist’s works from textiles, with which she has been working since 2015, will be presented. The artist’s works trace the traditions of baroque and folk art, appeal to world art and elements of mass culture.
Anastasiia Podervianska received her education as a monumental painter at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture and turned to textiles for the first time in 2015. The exhibition at NAMU is a kind of retrospective, featuring the main textile series that the artist has been working on over the past 10 years.
The series “Earthly and Heavenly Phenomena” is a continuation of the previous two series “Country Horror” (2015-2016) and “Country Horror II” (2017) based on the book “Ukrainian People in Their Legends, Religious Views and Beliefs” by Heorhiy Bulashev (1909), which started Anastasiia Podervianska’s work in textile technique. The book is based on legends from the book that the ethnographer and literary scholar collected throughout Ukraine. The apocryphal stories and folk cosmogony reveal the passage of time, the continuity of tradition and national color. The large textile panels are marked by a multilayered and rich visual material that covers a wide range of traditions, from iconography to pop art.
The Inner World series was launched in 2019 and completed in 2020. It is related to human anatomy. The main focus is on the symbolism of body parts, which was formed in European culture. Today, these anatomical images take on a symbolic meaning and are filled with new meanings: anxiety, anticipation/experience of war, where the conventional becomes real.
The series “Still Life” (2021-2024) is a kind of dialog with famous paintings by prominent artists. Rembrandt, Surbaran, Snyders, Dürer, Lichtenstein and others become “participants” in the author’s game with the viewer, and quotes from their works provoke a new reading of European heritage.
The exposition is complemented by embroidered coats, where the artistic becomes part of everyday life, and hand-embroidered clothing turns into an art object.
The artist works in various painting techniques, levkas, experiments in textile techniques, collaging pieces of fabric and adding hand embroidery. Creates costumes and scenery for theater performances.
Musical accompaniment of the exhibition – Kostyantyn Mishukov (mix).
