Opening of the Exhibition by Serhiy Pustovyi: “In the Face of Crimea”

Friends, we’re excited to share the news: an upcoming exhibition of paintings by Serhiy Pustovyi, In the Face of Crimea, will soon open at NAMU!
The exhibition offers an artistic narrative of a place that became an essential part of the artist’s worldview and a source of inner light.
Curator: Danylo Nikitin

Serhiy Pustovyi is an artist for whom Crimea became a chosen homeland. In the mid-1980s, he permanently relocated to Bakhchysarai, where his artistic style fully matured. The light in his paintings is not merely a physical phenomenon—it is a guiding force that shapes reality from within.

Since his youth, Pustovyi has been deeply interested in philosophy, biblical and mythological subjects, archaeology, and history. Through his friendship with scholar Mariia Viazmitina, he entered the circle of the “Poet’s House” of Maksymilian Voloshyn in Koktebel, where he connected with a community of remarkable thinkers and artists. Koktebel, Bakhchysarai, and their surrounding landscapes became a constant source of inspiration for Pustovyi—places he lived in, reflected on, and immortalized in his works.
