VR-exhibition “Ukrainian portrait of the 17th-20th centuries”

VR-exhibition “Ukrainian portrait of the 17th-20th centuries”

Starting today, you can visit a virtual tour of the 1925 exhibition “Ukrainian portrait of the 17th-20th centuries”. This is a legendary event that took place about 100 years ago in the walls of the current NAMU.

Ukrainian portraits of the 17th–20th centuries were presented in three halls. The event was the result of the work of the first employees of the museum – Mykola Bilyashivskyi and Danylo Shcherbakivskyi, who formed the museum’s collection. Together with the art historian Fyodor Ernst, they selected 259 works that demonstrated the strength and richness of the Ukrainian portrait tradition.

The modern project based on the digitized materials of the 1925 exhibition brought together researchers from museum institutions and cultural institutions in Kyiv, Lviv and Kharkiv. Many years of research have allowed many works to be identified and found.

With the help of modern technologies, the exposition of the 1925 exhibition has been recreated in its original form. You can “move” through the halls and look at the presented exhibits, while at the same time getting acquainted with current research. And to learn more about the history of Ukrainian portraiture, use the audio guide. It was created on the basis of the catalog “Ukrainian portrait of the 17th-20th centuries”, which was prepared by Danylo Scherbakivskyi and Fedir Ernst especially for the 1925 exhibition.

The project will last from October 10 to November 9, a virtual tour of the exhibition is available every Thursday, every Friday and every Saturday from 12:00 to 18:00.
