On Friday, March 31, we invite you to the National Art Museum of Ukraine for another film screening and a meeting with the characters of the documentary series “Art in the Land of War” by artist Olesia Dzhuraieva and composer Oleksii Shmurak. The film “Art in the Country of War” is a joint project of the documentary film studio DocNoteFilms and the independent association of filmmakers BABYLON’13 (“Babylon’13”).
Olesia Dzhuraieva is a graphic artist from Kyiv known in Ukraine and abroad. She works mainly in printed graphics, in particular linocut. In the first days of the occupation, Olesia fled to a country house in the Cherkasy region, where she created unique and diverse engravings using ordinary wood and soil.
Oleksii Shmurak is a well-known Kyiv composer and sound artist. He participated in numerous events and multimedia projects at the Academy of Arts in Berlin, WDR hall in Cologne, Muffatwerk in Munich, Warsaw Philharmonic, Lviv Philharmonic, etc. In his work, he explores various fields and practices: classical, modern academic and experimental music, performance. In 2020-2021, Oleksii Shmurak was the co-author of the “Overheard Landscape” project held in NAMU. After February 24, he briefly left Kyiv, but has now returned to musical practice in his Kyiv studio. His focus is on the soundscapes of war.
