Presentation of works by Davyd Burliuk

Presentation of works by Davyd Burliuk

We are pleased to invite you to the third event of the ‘Unfinished Stories: New Works from the Collection series’ – a presentation of works by Davyd Burliuk!

Despite the war and the huge losses suffered by Ukrainian museums today, the process of replenishing collections continues. This time we would like to share with you the joy of the recent acquisition of two works by Davyd Burliuk, a bright futurist, experimenter, performer, Ukrainian artist of world renown who has always been in the midst of artistic events.
Since 1922, Burliuk has lived in the United States, where he worked actively and where the lion’s share of his artistic heritage remains. The works transferred to NAMU this year belong to the postwar period, which has not been represented in the collection until now.

“Still Life by the Sea” (mid-twentieth century) and “March” (1946) have their own history – they were donated to the museum by John Greenstein, who inherited them from his aunt Elaine Gilbert Green. However, this would not have been possible without the museum’s friends, including Ihor Aronov, Mykhailo Horobets’, Olesia Herashchenko, Kostiantyn Doroshenko, Oleksandr Demko, and Danylo Volynets’. We are very grateful to everyone who worked to bring Burliuk’s works to the museum collection.

It is well known how important the work of Ukrainian avant-garde artists is today, and how difficult it is to find and include it in the collection. We will be happy to share the story of the search for these works by NAMU friends in America at a meeting at the museum next Saturday.

🔸We are waiting for you on October 28th (Saturday) from 12:00 to 17:00.

🔸14:00 – a master class for adults and teenagers based on David Burliuk’s ‘Horses in a Colorful Carousel’ will be held: we will study the interaction of color, texture and line using paints and related materials. We will talk about the creative path of Davyd Burliuk, his formula “painting – color space”, the interaction of color, line, plane and texture, which transforms a form on the plane into a form in space.

🔸17:00 – a presentation of new works by Davyd Burliuk and a screening of the documentary by Tetiana Khodakivs’ka and Oleksandr Stekolenko “Tantalizing, Sweet, Without Boundaries or Songs and Dances about Death.” The film consists of three parts: the first part is set in Italy, the second in the Carpathians, and the third in Georgia. All chapters are united by reflections on the simplicity of life and the inevitability of death. Traditionally, the film will be presented to the audience by Oleh Chornyi.

🔸During the day, visitors can also talk to the mediators, ask questions about the works, and learn more about the artist and the peculiarities of his style.

📌Cost: visit to the exhibition – 60 UAH, presentations (including film screening) – 90 UAH, master class – 150 UAH.

📌Register here.

📌 Unfortunately, for technical reasons, the museum is temporarily unable to accept card payments on the spot. At the moment, you can pay in cash or by card transfer.

📌 In the event of an air raid alert, we ask all visitors to immediately proceed to a shelter. The nearest shelters are located at Khreshchatyk Street, 4 (underground passage near the Dnipro Hotel) and at the Maidan Nezalezhnosti subway station.

📌 If less than 60 minutes of the event have passed at the time of the air raid alert, we will continue the lecture after the air raid is over or continue on another day. If the event lasted 60 minutes or more, it is considered to have taken place.

You can get to the museum through the service entrance located at the back of the building.
