We invite you to join the round table “Dance, museum, war?”, which will be held on Thursday, July 25 at 4 p.m. as part of the parallel program of the exhibition “How do you Dance in a War Zone?”
During the conversation, we will try to identify the contemporary challenge of dance and live art that artists, curators, and researchers face. We will discuss the place of dance in the system of contemporary art, its opportunities and challenges, and also try to find out how to preserve and understand the experience of war and the role of dance in it.
Participants:
🔸 Larysa Babii is an American of Ukrainian origin who has lived in Kyiv since 2005. She writes and translates articles related to culture, dances and teaches the Feldenkrais method. For many years she worked with contemporary art, in particular in collaboration with the TanzLaboratorium group and other artists. Curator of the performance series “Hostage at NAMU”.
🔸 Oksana Barshinova is an art critic and curator, deputy general director of NAMU for exhibition work. Known as a researcher and popularizer of Ukrainian contemporary art, she consistently deals with issues of its museification, archiving and preservation. Curator and co-curator of such landmark museum projects as “Ukrainian New Wave” (2009), “The Myth of “Ukrainian Baroque” (2012, together with Halyna Skliarenko), “Tetiana Yablonska. And memories, and dreams” (2017) and many others.
🔸 Yuliia Bentia has a PhD of art studies, a senior research fellow at the Institute of Contemporary Art Problems of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, editor-in-chief of the Krytyka magazine.
🔸 Hanna Veselovska – doctor of art history, professor, teacher, head of the department of theater studies of the Institute of Contemporary Art Problems of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, Ukrainian theater critic. Head of the direction of expert and analytical activities of the National Union of Theater Actors of Ukraine.
🔸 Viktor Ruban – choreographer, director, dancer, teacher, researcher, curator and producer, co-founder and program director of CO “Impulse Transformation Platform”, general director of Ruban production ITP, founder and head of the space #KyivDanceResidency – an international platform for art and research , working with movement, as well as research into bodily, dance and performative practices.
