The National Art Museum of Ukraine, together with the National Museum of the History of Ukraine and the National Museum of Decorative Arts of Ukraine, announce a joint scientific conference National Ukrainian Museum: Times, People, Fates on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of its foundation.
The scientific conference will be held at the National Art Museum of Ukraine (Hrushevskoho st, 6, Kyiv) on October 8–9, 2024.
On August 5 (17), 1899, the first exhibition dedicated to the XI Archaeological Congress opened in five halls of the Kyiv City Museum of Antiquities and Arts. From that moment on, the history of Ukraine’s three leading museums, the National Art Museum of Ukraine, the National Museum of the History of Ukraine, and the National Museum of Decorative Arts of Ukraine, began.
The conference is devoted to the history of the City Museum of Antiquities and Arts and previously unknown pages of the museum’s construction, the formation of collections, the Old Kyiv department, the history of the library, Mykola Biliashivskyi’s project National Ukrainian Museum, the staff who lived and worked at the museum, and much more.
The conference should cover a wide range of issues related to the history of the Kyiv City Museum of Antiquities and Arts and the museums that emerged on its basis, as well as the development of museums in Ukraine.
Languages: Ukrainian, English.
Conference will be held in a mixed format: offline and online. Conference IDs will be announced separately.
Based on the results of the work, it is planned to prepare a collection of scientific conference materials (articles, theses) to be posted on the official websites of NAMU, NMHU, NMDAU.
