In 2021, the famous French art researcher Jean-Claude Marcade presented NAMU with works by Ukrainian modernist artists who lived and worked in France. So the museum collection was replenished with 98 works by Mykhailo Andrienko and 58 works by Anna Starytska. On October 12-14, selected works of artists can be seen in the halls of NAMU, as well as talk with specialists about the peculiarities of the creativity of the Ukrainian diaspora.
Jean-Claude Markade and his wife, Valentina Markade (Vasyutynska), a Ukrainian by origin, made a significant contribution to the popularization of Ukrainian art in France. Thus, in 1981, Valentyna Markade defended her thesis on the history of Ukrainian art, which later became the basis of a separate book. Jean-Claude Marcade is widely known for his studies of the Ukrainian avant-garde, and he has a monograph on Kazimir Malevich.
Mykhailo Andrienko (1894–1982) was a prominent figure in the Paris School, his works are marked by the features of many new trends – from Fauvism to Surrealism. The work of Anna Starytska (1907–1981) is interesting for the wide range of techniques characteristic of post-war modernism. She turned to collage, monotype and various variations of prints.
For three days, you will be treated to an exhibition of several works by Anna Starytska and Mykhailo Andrienko, and in the video we will show all the works donated to the museum by Jean-Claude Marcade. In addition, we invite you to participate in various activities:
