This Saturday, November 25, the seventh event of the series “Unfinished stories: new works from the collection. The way to freedom”. This time it will be special, as we invite you to look at the works of two artists dedicated to the Revolution of Dignity.
The works of Olena Pryduvalova and Valentyn Hordiychuk entered the museum collection recently. The artist’s canvas “Hrushevsky Street”, from the series “Maidan” (2014), was created directly during the confrontation on the Maidan. It captures a moment – complex, fragile and overwhelming. Hrushevsky Street was at the epicenter of the events, and the museum was “on the other side of evil” – on the territory where parts of the Berkut special unit were located. The Museum on the Line of Resistance is, first of all, the people who made great efforts to preserve the collection, protect the building and their own views. Therefore, the exhibition will be complemented by photographs from the museum archive, some of which are very personal, taken by friends and employees of the museum during the hottest days of the Maidan.
Valentyn Hordiychuk’s graphic series is completely different. Created two years later, it reinterprets the “Maidan” experience and correlates it with the history of Ukraine, which never stopped fighting for its own freedom. The artist’s works contain images that combine historical and cultural codes, national myths and allegories.
However, the main event of the day will be the viewing and discussion of the documentary “Medics of the Kherson region. Deoccupation” (2023). The film tells about the difficult work of doctors during the occupation of Kherson region, their dedication to the profession and care for patients, as well as about Russia’s crimes against the health care system in general. The director of the film, Kostyantyn Klyatskin, and the cameraman, Pavlo Lypa, are members of the Babylonʼ13 film association, which began its activities during the Revolution of Dignity and continues to document crimes against humanity to this day. The conversation with the film crew will be moderated by Oleg Chornyi.
