We invite you to the second event of the cycle “Unfinished stories: new works from the collection”!
This time we propose to talk about the Uzhgorod Sixties. Over the last period, the museum’s collection was replenished with linocuts of the 1960s by the extraordinary artist-nonconformist Yelyzaveta Kremnytska, donated by the Kyiv film dramatist and writer Andriy Topachevsky. From him, two paintings by Volodymyr Nikita, known for his bright Transcarpathian landscapes and genre scenes from the life of the highlanders, were donated to the museum. The small exposition will be complemented by the works of an extraordinary experimental graphic designer, husband of Elizaveta Kremnytska, Pavel Bedzir from the museum collection.
A conversation about Ukrainian art cannot be complete without the creativity of Transcarpathians, because it was they who were able to preserve the powerful modernist tradition and had a huge impact on Ukrainian painting and cinematography of the 1960s.
During three days, you will be able to view the presented exposition, as well as participate in museum activities:
October 19 (Thursday) at 5:00 p.m. — we invite you to talk about the Uzhhorod 60s and the difficulties researchers face when collecting archives of unofficial art. We also suggest discussing the myth of the Transcarpathian school of painting, which is firmly rooted in Ukrainian art history, and other “inventions” of Soviet art history that require rethinking. Olena Grozovska, art critic, artist, curator of the Ukrainian Unofficial online archive, Tetiana Zhmurko and Oksana Barshinova (NAMU) will take part in the conversation.
October 21 at 4:30 p.m. (Saturday) — the story of the media worker about the works presented at the exhibition.
October 21 at 5:00 p.m. (Saturday) – we invite you to watch Oleksiy Umanskyi’s film “Cinema” (2015), which is a kind of video-research dedicated to the films that were shot in Transcarpathia during 50 years. The film will be presented by Oleg Cherny, film director, screenwriter, researcher and media artist.
The exhibition is open for visits on October 19-21 from 12:00 to 17:00. The cost of visiting only the exhibition is UAH 50. The cost of attending events is UAH 100. Register for the event here.
