Lecture “Oksana Pavlenko and the image of the “new woman” of the 1920s-1930s”

Lecture “Oksana Pavlenko and the image of the “new woman” of the 1920s-1930s”

Next Friday, in the museum lecture hall, we will hear the story of Oksana Pavlenko, a Boichukist artist and an active figure in the artistic process. More than 100 years ago, she chose a career instead of the traditionally “feminine” roles of wife and mother. And she was able to become one of the best students of Mykhailo Boychuk’s monumental workshop.

She had to build her career in the newly created Soviet country. At the time when the party implemented its ambitious plan to create the image of the “New Soviet Woman”. Oksana Pavlenko, like millions of girls and women, became a participant in this experiment. But can Oksana Pavlenko herself be called a heroine of her time? What was her vision of the “new Soviet woman”? And to what extent did the image created by her meet the requirements of the party?

We will look for answers in the memories of the artist, and of course, in her works of the 1920s and 30s: drawings and sketches (some of which we will show for the first time!), sketches and famous paintings. Therefore, we invite you to Anastasia Plishchenko’s lecture “Oksana Pavlenko and the image of the “new woman” of the 1920s-1930s”, which will take place on May 24 at 5:00 p.m.
